Ancient Technique to Split Firewood Without an Axe !
How to Split Firewood Without an Axe. This is a technique I would actually use, and surprisingly, it is not at all a gimmick.
Lots of folks don't bring an Axe or Hatchet Backcountry simply for safety reasons. Throughout my studies and experience in survival, I've heard of techniques like these but never really tested them.

I invented a NEW KNOT.. and its a GAMECHANGER
Просмотров 127 тыс.День назад
The first publication of The "Bear's Grip" Hitch.. A new type of "Kamikaze" Remote Release Hitch. I have decided to call it the "Bear's Grip" Hitch. And by all technical standards, it's not a single "knot," nor is it a single "Hitch" on its own...I don't think. I would classify it as a rigging system, similar to a "Truckers' Hitch," for instance. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it! Here are some links...

    I think I came up with a much simpler and more secure way to do it. You take a rope and insert it through the handle/clipse in whatever item to intend to lower. Then you grab both ends of the rope, and lower it, and when you're done, you let go of one end, and pull the other, and you have your rope back. The downside is, you need your rope to be twice was long for the same distance of lowering, and you need whatever item you're lowering to have a handle or hole.

    • @yoavjacoby8246
      @yoavjacoby8246 2 часа назад

      Also, if you're using this to climb down, it'll be easier if you tie one end of the knot to yourself, wrap it around a tree, and use the other emd to climb down. (Then you don't have to constantly grab both ends of the rope, which would be quite inconvenient...)

    Very cool technique, will definitely try this when I'm out in the woods again. Now it's got me thinking, how to make best use of the unique shape it creates in the logs, almost like a hanger or split stick deadfall trap.

    So. RUclips understands that I both watch a lot of math videos, and a lot of bushcraft videos. When I clicked on this video I originially thought it was about topology. But this was cooler. That know is sick! and thanks so much for answering the same question about rope-work I saw in fiction! My golly what a cool knot.

  • @spoookley
    @spoookley 6 часов назад

    alternatively, wrap your rope around a tree; make it so that it’s a giant expanding loop by creating a small sturdy loop on the short end, so that you can use yourself & the tree as the two pivots in a pulley system, or even just make it one big loop & use that to climb down & just untie the loop when you get to the bottom. if you use two separate ropes then you can even untie it from either end of the loop without having to rewind the tape.

    Never seen this! Also works pretty well if you find a dead standing tree.... Cut/Chop or push down then Do halfcuts at intervals down then find two live trees a few feet apart and stick first top section in and use leverage to break. The leverage trick is great breaking something you couldn't break yourself and couple it with the saw trick (which is a cousin to this type) and it splits in half really well. Way less time, work and danger of the axe.

    "Two Cut Method" Might I recommend renaming it to something with "Z" to better describe where the cuts go and where the split forms? The Z Cut, Z Saw or Z Tap or something more creative? Great technique, thanks for making something consistently useful!

    Why not just pass a rope through and tie both ends together, and that's what you hold on to? it cant come undone because you are holding the knot. when ready to release, just undo the knot, and pull to get the rope through. The only downside is it takes twice as long as a rope, but its way less complicated.

    DJ, this is an outstanding contribution to the bush craft community. Well done! As a rock climber, I would never use this knot for life support; there are at least three methods we use to retrieve our rope, e.g., using a fiddlestick (smooth operator), Macrame Hitch, releasable anchor using a Bowline + a tag line, etc.
